Numerous committees have been set up in the city for planning special programs, designing posters, and inviting religious, cultural, art and political figures to festivals commemorating Najaf as the cultural capital of the Islamic world.
Projects have also begun for building the necessary infrastructures including cultural and art centers, lecture theaters, and exhibitions. The projects are all funded by the Iraqi government.
As part of the programs, seminars are planned to be held in the city on the status of Najaf, its scholars and historical figures and its role in combating tyrannies in history.
One of the holiest places in Shia Islam, Najaf is home to the Imam Ali’s (AS) mausoleum.
